I discovered my love for words at 10 but earned degrees in the more “sensible” fields of accounting and business management. Several years ago, I resumed my Word Nerd status as a writer of back-of-the-book (BOB) and embedded/hyperlinked indexes, freelance copy/line editor, and proofreader. I’ve completed many courses, including UC Berkeley’s Indexing Theory and Application, and earned UCSD’s Specialized Certificate in Copyediting. I have also presented or written about indexing for various professional groups and periodicals. My background is in banking/finance, real estate, and education.
For the last couple of years, I’ve been administrator of the ASI Training in Indexing course. I have served as treasurer of SD/Pen, been an elected member of the EFA Board of Governors, and have judged ACES headline contests.
