I am an indexer and information management professional with a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree and over 15 years of experience with indexing, cataloguing, technical writing, and creating controlled vocabularies used for indexing and cataloguing.

I work primarily in the social sciences and humanities, and specialize in the subject areas of LGBTQ+ and queer studies, sexuality, women’s and gender studies, indigenous studies, art and cultural studies, environmental studies, media and technology, and interdisciplinary scholarship. However, as an information management professional, I bring a core set of skills that can be applied to many subject areas, and I love to research and learn new things.

I studied indexing, cataloguing, and how to create controlled vocabularies and taxonomies while earning my MLIS degree from Dalhousie University. In my subsequent work experience, I have used these skills across disciplines to create various systems of organization and classification that allow greater access to and discoverability of content.

I believe a thoughtful, thorough index is key in helping readers to access and discover the vital information and ideas contained in a text. I take time to think through different types of readers and their research goals and construct the index accordingly, providing multiple reference points and carefully considering terminology to ensure that that it is intuitive for diverse readers, true to the author’s vision, and respectful towards the communities that the content is about.

In addition to indexing for publishers, authors, and organizations, I work with individuals who want to index personal collections and archives, such as recipe collections, artworks, diaries, correspondence, music, and photographs. I will work with you to understand your goals and create an organizational system for your collection that will allow you to easily find the information you need.

I have excellent communication and project management skills that allow me to effectively coordinate multiple projects and deliver them within deadlines and specifications.
